The Human Wave

Do like the water and find your rhythm

The water has great strength. Waves can break a pier and wash a dam away, and they can lift heavy ships up and down as if they did not weigh anything.

At one side of our wave power plant, we make use of the fact that the waves in the water tank raise and lower the floaters. This makes a shaft turn around and drive a generator which creates electrical current. But what happens and what does the water do?

You can try this for yourself at the other side of the wave power plant. Here you are the water. Grab on to a floater and try to lift it. You will probably get the axle to turn a bit around. The generator creates electric current, while the axle is turning around.

What happens, when you lift the floater as high up as possible? The axle will stop turning around and you need to put the floater down again. Are there going to be lumps in the current, or will you be able to smooth out the current together with the others, playing a human wave? Listen to the music and maybe it will help you.
