Here you need good legs…
Have you ever tried to stand on your hands? It feels much more tiring than when you just stand on your legs. How can this be? You weigh just as much whether the head is up or down.
One of the reasons are that the muscles in your legs and in your buttocks are much larger and stronger than the muscles in your arms. It gives you much greater strength in your legs than in your arms. At the treadmill you can figure out how much strength you have in your legs.
The treadmill consists of a big wheel, which you either run or walk inside and which has a generator on the backside. Between the wheel and the generator there is a belt drive. The generator produces current and it resists more, the more current, and thus energy, it produces. If you connect different lamps to the treadmill’s generator, you will feel that it becomes heavier to drive. Some lamps use more current and consequently more energy than others.
Back in time, it was common to use horses and donkeys to walk in treadmills and sometimes even convicts and slaves. Today we have found more modern methods of producing energy. However it is still fun to see how much energy it is possible to produce with your muscles and how fast you can do it. Wondering if you are in good shape to trigger the photo-flash?
