It runs like a greased lightning
Since the invention of the cars in the early 1900, we pumped more and more oil out of the ground to make gasoline and diesel from it. Can you imagine a world where there are no cars that can run, no cargo ships that can sail and no aircraft that can fly, because there is no liquid fuel forn them? No, you can’t, right? Everything would come to a stop!
At EnergyLab you can pump oil from the ground while competing with your friends. The oil pumps look like the ones that are used in the oilfields in Texas and other places. The winner will get the most energy points but the winner will also be the one who sends out the most carbon dioxide into the air.
Carbon dioxide occurs when you burn oil to make use of its energy. About 65% of the energy in oil comes from carbon, and that burns to carbon dioxide, which is also called CO2. Carbon dioxide is a gas, which is a natural component of the earth’s atmosphere.
The special thing about carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is that it holds on to the heat from the sun. Since the cars were invented, we have burned off so much oil that the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has increased. This has made the atmosphere of the earth much warmer and that is not so good.
