We introduce a CO2-neutral Homepage

If you and I use the Internet, we need electricity. For both the server to operate as well as our computers, electricity must flow through the cables.

Overall, there is an enormous current drain. And the production of electricity is almost equal to the emissions of CO2.

Danfoss Universe joined the Danish initiative "CO2-neutral Homepages" whose aim it is to enable businesses to neutralize the CO2 emission which is caused by the use of their homepages.

We do not this because we advocate for the limited use of the internet. We do this because we want to limit the environment pollution which is caused through our websites restrict.

And this is how it works:

What does it mean to buy CO2 rates?

As a member of the Kyoto agreement, the EU is committed to reduce the CO2 emissions drastically.

One of the attempts, the EU made to reach the objective is the CO2 rate system EUA (EU Allowance). A CO2-rate gives a business the right to emit a ton of CO2. The EU Commission will determine how many rates of total CO2 may be expelled in the EU. In Denmark, the CO2 emission of the companies is controlled by the Danish Energy Agency.

When Danfoss Universe buys some of these CO2 rates, other businesses can buy less. This means that they now are forced to reduce their CO2 emissions to meet their requirement. We are therefore indirectly related to the securing of the total decrease CO2 emission. The rates are cleared by the Danish Energy Agency. This happens on a monthly basis and is also published.

The percentage of CO2 rates will be cleared with the number of visitors on our homepage www.danfossuniverse.com.

The Internet emits more CO2 than the aviation

It is said that IT systems and the use of the Internet overtake aviation as CO2-sinners.

It is important for us to emphasize that we in no way are enemies of the Internet.
Quite the contrary.

The Internet can help in many respects to a good environmental record, compared with the alternatives. Without the Internet we would have to send all information by post. There would arise enormous CO2 costs, first to produce the amount of paper, then to print all the pages and finally to deliver it to the addressee. .

But the use of the Internet is growing - and that takes more and more electricity. This has led to increased CO2 emission.

Therefore, we find it important to focus on limiting the pollution caused by use of our sites.
