Lightning typically has a temperature of about 30,000 degrees centigrade (five times hotter than the surface of the sun!)

Thursday is named after the old Nordic god, Thor, of whom the legend tells that he made thunder when traveling across the skies in his chariot pulled by male goats. They would run so fast that their hooves created sparks and the rumble of the chariot would sound like thunder.

Statistics show that on average one Dane dies each year as a result of lightning.

You can count the seconds from you see the lightning until you hear the thunder if you want to know how the distance between yourself and the lightning. Three seconds corresponds to one kilometer.
