A new initiative wants to alter the school system regarding the Sønderborg district and improve possibilities for teaching natural sciences.
Teachers will be specialized and play, innovation and creativity are wanted as part of the time-tables.
The best state school of the world ought to be Danish and ought to have the world’s best teaching in natural sciences. The new public/private partnership House of Science is sailing along with the government’s strategy, wanting Denmark to have the world’s best state school as a mutual goal. To secure unique and strong opportunities for teaching natural sciences is among other things a step to fulfil their ambitions about becoming a science district and run one of Denmark’s best educational systems.
From airy ambition to real initiatives in Sønderborg
The initiative consist of three parts: Sønderborg District, the scientific park Danfoss Universe and ProjectZero. All three parts invest half a million kroner and in the long run the thought is that secondary schools or similar providers and the institutions for higher education enter into the cooperation.
Minister of Education is delighted
“The initiative taken of the participants of House of Science is exceptional. Danfoss Universe as well as Sønderborg District have been role models in their attempt to promote natural sciences to youngsters with engagement and a playful approach. The government on their part gave half a billion kroner to modernize scientific facilities from 2006 till 2008, 80 millions to buy new books and money to train the teachers having natural sciences as their special subjects. We won’t reach the pupils though, if the districts and schools won’t take this as a joint ownership. It is one of my great concerns that we get natural sciences promoted all over the country - and the science districts are important role models in this context”, says Bertel Haarder, Minister of Education.
